Everywhere I look there is a
potential sculpture or painting and I love translating that to clay or canvas.
My subject matter really doesn’t matter---something catches my imagination and
I’m already producing it in my mind. Whether it is the dramatic effect of light
falling on a subject, composition, or just the emotion of the moment that hits
me---THAT feeling is what I want my art to say to you, the viewer!
Biography:
Ever since she could hold a pencil, Karen was sketching something. She adds, “My
mother was an artist, but she died suddenly when I was seven years old. With no
one else to encourage my growth in art, I really had no formal training until I
was in my 30’s where I took several professional level workshops at the Cowboy
Artists of America Museum in Kerrville, Texas” She has lived in Texas all her
life and finds many interesting art subjects around her. Her favorite subjects
include western heritage themes or equine subjects. After a 16 year career in
graphic art, Karen is looking forward to devoting more time to developing her
sculpture and oil painting skills.
After high School, Karen attended a local college as a business major, but her
artistic desire was too strong and she found a sign painting apprentice
opportunity and felt that at least this would turn her towards what she really
wanted to do--art! In the early 1990’s, she started taking art workshops in oil
painting and sculpture. After studying with many noted artists such as Fritz
White, Grant Speed, Charlotte Curry and Bruce Greene she felt her art really
improved. She has participated in juried art shows such as Bosque National Art
Competition, Hill Country Arts Foundation Regional Show & Sale and other local
art shows. She has shown her work at several local galleries. After a 5 year
hiatus to give more attention to her family, Karen is looking forward to
participating in several juried art events throughout the country and finding at
least one gallery in which to place her work.
